Throughout all age groups, the Montessori approach emphasises hands-on, self-directed learning in mixed-age classrooms that foster peer learning and social development. Children are given uninterrupted work cycles to develop concentration and self-regulation, and the prepared environment encourages exploration and independence. Ladybird Class

18m to 3yrs

Emphasis on the development of motor skills, language, and independence. Children engage in practical life activities such as pouring, spooning, and dressing frames, which help them develop essential skills for daily life. Sensorial exploration is encouraged through materials that isolate qualities like size, shape, colour, and texture, allowing children to refine their senses. Basic concepts like counting, colours, and shapes are introduced, while social skills, grace, and courtesy are also emphasised.

Goldfish Class

3 to 4yrs

Children continue with practical life and sensorial activities, while language materials such as sandpaper letters and the movable alphabet are introduced to build a foundation for reading and writing. Mathematical concepts are explored using concrete materials, helping children develop an understanding of numbers and quantities. Fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination are further developed, and social skills and independence continue to be nurtured.

Butterfly Class

4 to 5yrs

As children progress, they engage in more advanced practical life and sensorial activities. Language skills are further developed, with a focus on reading, writing, and the introduction of grammar and parts of speech. Mathematical concepts become more complex, with the decimal system and various operations being explored. Cultural subjects such as geography, science, art, and music are introduced, allowing children to expand their understanding of the world around them. Motor skills are refined, and collaborative work becomes more prominent.

Safari Class (Grade R)

5 to 6yrs

In the final year the children master practical life and sensorial skills, becoming increasingly independent and self-directed learners. Reading and writing fluency is achieved, and children are introduced to more advanced grammar concepts. Mathematical operations become more complex, and problem-solving skills are honed. Children deepen their understanding of cultural subjects through research and experimentation, preparing them for the transition to the traditional schooling system.
